From the Director
Welcome to the very first newsletter for The Beat of a Slow Dance. If you are here, you already believe in something — and I am grateful for that more than I can say.
This film began with a single question that would not leave me alone: When was the last time you slow danced? We live in a world that rushes everything — including the most sacred thing we have. I wanted to make a film that stopped. That sat still. That listened for love in the spaces most of us sprint past without noticing.
We are currently in production, filming in Lawrenceville, Georgia, with an extraordinary cinematographer and guests who are showing up with their whole hearts. Every conversation we capture reminds me why this story needed to be told — and why it needed to be told slowly.
This newsletter is your backstage pass. Updates, reflections, behind-the-scenes moments, and the occasional story that reminds us all why love is worth slowing down for. Thank you for being here at the very beginning.

About the Film
Act I
A slow dance begins before your feet move. It begins the moment a song starts — the tempo, the key, the voice that pulls something loose inside you. Music is the first element, and the most involuntary. You don't choose to feel it. It chooses you.
Act II
How someone holds you says everything words rarely dare to. Close or at arm's length. Leading or being led. Tense or completely at ease. The body communicates in a slow dance what the mind spends years trying to articulate — vulnerability, longing, safety, and love.
Act III
A slow dance is a metaphor for everything we wish life could be — unhurried, present, and fully felt. It is two people agreeing, without a single word, to slow down together in a world that never stops moving. That quiet agreement is its own kind of love.
Production Update
We are actively filming interviews in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Each interview is a conversation, not a performance, and every guest has shown up with something real.
Our 60-second teaser trailer has been completed by our cinematographer. It captures the mood, warmth, and cinematic language of the film beautifully.
We have applied for multiple documentary grants and are actively building our funding and sponsorship partnerships. The community continues to grow.
We are building screening partnerships across North Carolina and Georgia — from HBCUs to arts organizations to cultural institutions. This film belongs to the community.
